Times use each category's planning cruise speed plus its climb and descent allowance; charges use each category's indicative hourly rate. A category is shown as beyond range where a fuel stop would normally be needed.
How the calculator works
It measures the great-circle distance between the two airports, converts it to airborne time at each aircraft category's planning speed with an allowance for climb and descent, and multiplies by that category's indicative hourly rate. A return doubles the flying. Every figure is for the whole aircraft.
That is the honest part of a charter price you can calculate without knowing where an aircraft is on the day. The rest of the quotation depends on things a calculator cannot see, which is why the result is labelled as an indicative estimate and not as a quote. How private jet prices work sets out the method in full.
The likely extras, explained
Repositioning. If the aircraft is not already at your departure airport, flying it there and back home is chargeable. On a one-way trip, or a long stay at a busy airport where the aircraft cannot park, this is often the largest extra.
Landing, handling and parking. Charged by each airport and handling agent, and very different between airports serving the same city.
Catering. Ordered to your taste and charged at cost.
De-icing. Needed on cold mornings in winter and charged per application by the handling agent.
Crew overnight costs. On a trip where the aircraft waits for you, the crew's hotel and allowances are added.
Taxes. Passenger duties and taxes apply on some departures and are passed through as charged.
The indicative flying charge includes

Not included — quoted separately
- Positioning the aircraft to your departure airport and home again
- Landing, handling and parking charges
- Passenger taxes and duties where applicable
- Catering and ground transport
- De-icing in winter
- Crew overnight costs on multi-day trips
- Permits

Common questions
Calculator
questions
How accurate is the private jet cost calculator?
It gives the indicative flying charge for the route: great-circle distance, an allowance for climb and descent, and each aircraft category's representative hourly rate from the same central data used everywhere on this site. It is a planning figure, not a quotation. The final price also depends on positioning, airports, dates, passengers and baggage.
Is the calculator result a quotation I can book?
No. It is an indicative estimate you can use to compare routes and aircraft. A bookable price is the operator's quotation for a named aircraft, which a pilot sources for you once you send the details.
Why does a return cost roughly double a one-way?
Because the calculator shows the flying charge for both sectors. In practice a one-way often carries positioning costs to get the aircraft home, so a one-way quotation can be closer to a return than the estimate suggests.
What are the extra costs on top of the flying charge?
Positioning the aircraft, landing, handling and parking charges, passenger taxes where applicable, catering, de-icing in winter, crew overnight costs on multi-day trips and permits. They vary by airport, season and trip length.
Is the price per seat?
No. Every figure is for the whole aircraft. The per-passenger figure is simply the total divided by the number of passengers.
Which aircraft does the calculator use?
The headline figure uses the Citation X / super-midsize rate, the reference aircraft for this site. The results then list each suitable aircraft category for your route and passengers with its own time and flying charge, best match first.
