Why this airport
The Tyrolean resorts are close to Innsbruck by road, and the alternative airports are all significantly further. For St Anton and Ischgl in particular it is the obvious arrival.
Slots, parking and operational restrictions
Innsbruck sits in a valley with high terrain on both sides and has special approach and departure procedures. Crews require specific qualification for the airport and not every operator holds it. Winter weather and wind through the valley can cause delays and diversions more often than at a flat-terrain airport. Slot and parking capacity is limited at winter weekends.
Alternative airports
Salzburg is a straightforward alternative with a longer road transfer to the western Tyrol. Munich is further again but handles anything and rarely runs out of capacity. Friedrichshafen and Memmingen occasionally suit.
Passengers and baggage
Aircraft choice at Innsbruck is already narrowed by the airport qualification and performance requirements. Adding six sets of ski kit narrows it further. Get the bag count in early.
Onward transfer
The Tyrolean resorts are generally within one to two hours by road in normal conditions. Winter conditions and Saturday changeover traffic extend this, sometimes considerably.
Road journey times vary with traffic, weather and season. We do not publish transfer times as promises.

Indicative cruise altitude only — actual altitude depends on routing, weather, aircraft weight and air traffic control. Range is a planning figure, not a guarantee: payload, reserves, weather and airport restrictions all reduce usable range. Individual aircraft configurations vary and no particular airframe is guaranteed.
The pilot’s view
Innsbruck is the Alpine airport that most rewards flying with people who know it. The special procedures exist for good reason, crew qualification is not a formality, and the valley wind can turn a routine arrival into a diversion. None of that makes it a bad choice — it makes it a choice worth planning properly, with Salzburg or Munich as a genuine plan B rather than a line on a flight plan.
Common questions
How long is a private jet flight from London to Innsbruck?
About 1 hr 25 min estimated airborne time over a great-circle distance of 532 nm. Allowing for taxi at both ends, indicative block time is about 1 hr 45 min. Actual routing varies with airways, ATC, weather and operational requirements.
How much does a private jet from London to Innsbruck cost?
Indicatively £9,000 for a super-midsize aircraft, calculated from 1 hr 25 min estimated airborne time. Indicative flying charge only, calculated from estimated airborne time and a representative rate for the aircraft category. Positioning, airport charges, handling, passenger taxes, catering, de-icing, crew expenses and minimum-sector charges are additional. Final pricing depends on aircraft availability and operator quotation.
Who operates the flight?
Charter flights are operated by appropriately certificated third-party air carriers. The operating carrier is identified with the charter quotation.
Why is Innsbruck considered a difficult airport?
High terrain either side of the valley requires special approach and departure procedures, and crews need specific qualification. Valley wind and winter weather add to it.
What is the alternative if we cannot get into Innsbruck?
Salzburg or Munich, both with a longer road transfer to the western Tyrol. Worth planning for rather than assuming it will not happen.
