Faro serves the Algarve — Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura — at about two and a half hours airborne from London. Like Málaga it is a year-round golf route rather than a summer-only one.

Why this airport
The Algarve golf courses sit close to Faro, and the region's mild winter keeps the route busy when the Mediterranean has emptied out.
Slots, parking and operational restrictions
Faro is a full-size international airport with business aviation handling. Summer is busy but capacity is generally workable. It is the only practical arrival for the central Algarve.
Alternative airports
Lisbon is the alternative for the western Algarve and for onward connections, with a long road transfer. Seville is occasionally useful for the eastern Algarve. Portimão is small and limited.
Passengers and baggage
Golf again, and the same arithmetic as Málaga: clubs are long, holds are shaped, and passenger count alone will mislead you. Declare the sets.
Onward transfer
Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura are all reasonably close to Faro by road. The western Algarve is considerably further.
Road journey times vary with traffic, weather and season. We do not publish transfer times as promises.

Indicative cruise altitude only — actual altitude depends on routing, weather, aircraft weight and air traffic control. Range is a planning figure, not a guarantee: payload, reserves, weather and airport restrictions all reduce usable range. Individual aircraft configurations vary and no particular airframe is guaranteed.
The pilot’s view
Faro is an easy airport and an easy trip, and the honest advice is the same as Málaga: the golf bags decide the aircraft, not the headcount. Book it in February and you will get a better price and better weather than most people expect. The Algarve in winter is quietly one of the best-value sectors we fly.
